The truth about spirituality..?
The truth about spirituality is that spirituality is not just a lifestyle but is the literal connection of your spirit with GOD and your ability to maintain that connection. Spirituality is a lifestyle that requires daily communication with GOD. Remember GOD is not something that one tries on, like a coat that keeps you warm during the winter only to be cast away at the change of the season. Think of it as an eternal light switch, that you have the power to turn on and off, but as with a light switch, when you turn it off you are completely in the dark. If you are reading this, it is because you know that inside of you, in your heart and in your mind, you know that there is a higher level that must be reached if you are to live a spiritual life.
The biggest mistake one can make is to confuse religion and spirituality. Religion is the faith one chooses and the acts required by that faith be it catholic, Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, etc… to belong. Spirituality is the actual connection of your spirit to God.
Spirituality is also based on the premise that human beings aspire to be better, to be God-like. How does man achieve this on earth? By treating others well, with respect and dignity, and love. You might say that you don’t always “love” everyone. No one does, but there is a big difference between loving someone and treating someone with respect. We are all human. None of us perfect, but what we do and say , how we treat one another, no matter how we might feel inside about that person is a reflection of who we are inside. When one continues to practice kindness, coupled with prayer and diligence, the spirit of that person is actually changed.
Once chosen, spiritually must be practiced. It must be studied and it must be embraced. There is no “Do not pass go” card when you make a mistake. If anything, the card will say “continue on”. We are taught as children that when we fall down, we get up, wipe our tears away and continue on the journey. The same is true for spirituality. You will fall. It is when we don’t like the pain of the fall and give up that we find ourselves in a stagnant place, not wanting to move forward. Spiritually is not stagnant. It is fluid, forever forging ahead. Determination, prayer and discipline are necessary in order to complete the journey and let’s not forget, love of God. It is this love that will be your biggest asset as your journey progresses.
It is in spirituality that we find God. Do not forget. He never leaves us. It is us, who leave him. Do not give up.
An exercise in spirituality for those who do not know what to pray.
Pray this in the morning when you wake up. Pray it at night or in the day, whenever you feel the need and even when you don’t.
A small prayer – “Father be with me always. Amen”[/optinlocker]
