Spirituality What’s Your Poison?

EALON_MAGAZINE_July2015_vFinalPrint.pdf - Adobe Acrobat Pro DCIT IS HUMAN NATURE TO ASPIRE TO BE
LIKE OUR CREATOR. When a child is born it mimicks
its parents. As it grows the child yearns for certain attributes
that he or she finds admirable in his/her parents. Usually the
attributes yearned for are those that are good. Why is this? It is
because we all believe that we are created in the image of our
creator and that we inherently possess the traits of the creator.
But in a world such as the one in which we live, those traits
change throughout our lives and we become products of our
environments mainly because we do not diligently nurture our
spiritual natures. Unless this is done, we cannot obtain the
spirituality we desire. If you think that you do not desire to be
more spiritual, you are wrong. Each time you seek to better
yourself, each time you empathize with someone, each time
you give to someone in need, you are nurturing your spirit.
Everytime you ask yourself what your purpose is in this life, you
are seeking communion with your creator.
What is your Poison? In order to continue on your spiritual
journey you must ask yourself this question. What is stopping
you from being a spiritual person? The answer is found by
defining your weakness. Is it overindulgence? The inability to
forgive? Is it alcohol, drugs, sex, food, jealousy? We could go
on forever, but for lack of time we will agree that the answer
could be simple or complex. The fact is that each one of us
is painfully aware of what our poison is. You cannot continue
on your journey until you define your weakness and address
it. Why? Because it is the one thing that will always come up
as you walk the path of leading a spiritual life. I urge you to
identify it. If it is not something that you can handle on your
own, then seek help to overcome it. It may be an easy fix, but
easy or hard you will need to pray and study as you tackle it.
We have been taught that man has two natures. Good and
evil. The struggle between the two are constant. Problematic
for some is that they have not been taught to recognize the
latter beyond the obvious. By the time it is recognizable, one
is usually so deep in that it is difficult to wrangle loose. Know
this; with God all things are possible, so dig in, hold fast and
don’t be afraid to swallow the antidote. Once you are free of
the problem, you will experience clarity as you continue on your
journey. As we stated before it is not an easy journey, but it is
not one that is unobtainable. Get better, your spirit is waiting
for you!
