Many people think that God is there to personally serve them. He is not. Many view God as some mystical being who is there only to grant their wishes. Also, not true. Heal the sick. Feed the poor. Punish evildoers and so on and so on and so on.
In the old testament God was the God of the Israelites. Their protector. He led them out of slavery and into the Promised Land. Many battles were fought and won with God on their side. They need only serve him and obey him. If not, they would be punished and as we continue to read, punished they were at different times, in various ways and by many other peoples.
The New Testament brings us to Jesus Christ and his disciples. We are told to love one another, to take care of one another and to live by the Ten Commandments of the Old Testament. It speaks of times to come and delves into the true nature of mankind. These Testaments, unlike any other, shape our very natures, speak to our hearts, and keep us in touch with our better selves.
God is constantly on my mind day in and day out. What does he want? How can I be a better person worthy of having him in my life? I have concluded that he is wanting of nothing and that there is only one thing that I can give.
This world in which we live is God. Living, breathing in and out, experiencing the day and night, the wind blowing, trees swaying back and forth. Both the calmness and roar of the ocean, the thunder and lightning. A baby’s first breath and a loved one’s last. The decision to Love or Hate, to punish or please, to give or take, serve or be served. It is all God. We are God. God lives in us, through us, and we are the proof of God’s existence.
God is a spirit, and because of God we exist; this I know. It is the one thing that I am sure of. What we must understand in this life is that giving our lives to God means that when we ask something of God from the place of truth that lies within us all that God is listening. God will take that truth, that hope and shape it and form it and fill in the cracks with an all-encompassing plan for our lives. God will breath life into our truth and that truth will become reality at the right time and place.
To believers in God, trust in that all we can do in this life is the best that we can, for ourselves and for others. We can appreciate and take care of the blessings that God gives us. We can acknowledge his existence and pass along that knowledge to every generation so that this place, this world that God has given us continues to live and grow and breathe and sustain us, for as long as there is good in the world, there is God.
