ASK MYA!

You wanted to know and Mya has the answers to your questions.

The Pandemic has forced many of us to perform beauty routines at home that we would normally have done at a salon with a glass of wine and good conversations with our friends.  While a few businesses have opened, many people just aren’t ready to venture out yet.  Here are some tips to help you stay your beautiful self until things return to normal

Q –  Do Masks really work?  There are so many different types.  What do they do and how do you know which ones you need?

While there is no replacement for a professional facial, some people have turned to cleansing masks to help them through for the time being.  You can get cleansing masks online, at your Beauty Supply Store, drug stores, and even at your favorite power shopping store.  There are all types of masks; charcoal, avocado, the list goes on.  A lot of people are getting creative and making them at home.  But just because they are easy to get, should you be using them?  Once you have made a decision to add masks to your skin care routine, you need to make sure that the one you choose is the right one for your skin.  Choosing wrong, could have repercussions and possibly worsen skin conditions.
Face masks can be very complimentary to a great skin care routine. You will find your results are better with face masks when you already have a steady routine. Face masks work by infusing your skin with specific ingredients that are needed for your skin type.  After proper application to the skin and while on your face for the required time, masks work with your daily regimen to help  improve your area(s) of concern.  Knowing your skin type and identifying your issues/concerns is critical in knowing which mask will work best for you.  For example if your face is dry you would look for a hydrating face mask.

Q –  Does opening up pores help keep Acne away and what’s the best way to open them?

You cannot actually open your pores. You can clean your pores by cleansing your skin twice a day. You can unclog your pores by using a facial steamer extractor or exfoliator a couple times out of the week. So keeping your pores cleaned and unclogged can help keep acne away.

Q –    Severe Teenage Acne – What can be done from home and how often?  Any recommended products?

For severe teenage acne it’s important to cleanse your skin at least twice a day. Find products that contain salicylic acid because it dissolves skin debris that clogs pores. Salicylic acid also acts as a anti-inflammatory so it will help to soothe any redness and help pustules go away quicker. It is also very important to have a professional exam your skin so you can know the best treatment for you to use at home. Once you talk to a professional and get into a consistent routine you will notice your skin is much clearer and at its best.  If you must handle your skin care from home, read the product information carefully so you will understand what the product is for.  Sensitive skin requires different products that won’t irritate or cause other skin issues.  Also know what skin types the products you are considering work best on, and what the expected outcome is for using the products you choose.
